Prolinnova–Kenya in Horn of Africa & Sahel Knowledge Share Fair
Vincent Mariadho, PK coordinator, presenting Joe Ouko’s locally formulated dairy goat meal
Prolinnova–Kenya (PK) joined other organisations around the world to share its knowledge and approach in an online event on 19–23 October 2020. The virtual Horn of Africa & Sahel Knowledge Share Fair under the theme of “Promoting innovation to build resilience against climate shocks” was convened by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in partnership with Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). PK’s submission was selected for inclusion in the fair.
On 22 October, PK – represented by Vincent Mariadho, the PK coordinator – presented a local innovation developed by the small-scale farmer Joe Ouko: Locally Formulated Dairy Goat Meal (LOFODA-G-Meal) for feeding goats in Kenya. Using both PowerPoint and a video clip featuring the farmer innovator, Vincent provided evidence on the efficacy of local innovation processes in addressing various challenges caused by climate shocks. The virtual session was attended by almost 90 participants and generated many interesting and insightful questions.
