Consultative workshop on perception of change and identification of local innovations in Tahtay Maichew

A consultative workshop was held in Tahtay Maichew, Tigray Region of Ethiopia, to explore together with farmers and other stakeholders the local perceptions of change and to identify local innovations in response to change. The workshop was organised by Prolinnova-Ethiopia (PE), particularly by its member organisations Best Practice Association (BPA) and Institute for Sustainable Development (ISD). Capacity building in farmer-led joint experimentation in Tahtay Maichew, Tigray Region

Capacity building for farmers and other stakeholders who are engaging in joint experimentation was held in Tahtay Maichew District of Tigray Region.

The workshop was organised by Best Practice Association (BPA) and Institute for Sustainable Development (ISD) in collaboration with other Axum Prolinnova Platform members – innovator farmers, Aksum University, District Agricultural Office, Zonal Food Security Desk, Axum Agriculture Research Center and the Prolinnova–Ethiopia (PE) Secretariat based at PANE (Poverty Alleviation Network Ethiopia). Farmers’ Perceptions of Changes and their Local Innovation in Response thereto in Enebse Sar Medir, Ethiopia: Survey Report

In Enebse Sar Medir District of Amhara Region in central Ethiopia, an study was made of how smallholder farmers and their communities perceive the main changes affecting their livelihoods, including (but not only) climate change, and how they respond to these changes. The study was carried out by the Alem Berhan Self Help Community Based Development Association in Enebse Sar Medir and PANE (Poverty Action Network Ethiopia), the host of the Prolinnova-Ethiopia multistakeholder platform. It forms part of the Rockefeller Foundation-supported project “Strengthening Community Resilience to Change: Combining Local Innovative Capacity with Scientific Research” (CLIC–SR). International Farmer Innovation Day (IFID) Celebration 2013 in Ethiopia

Prolinnova-Ethiopia celebrated the International Farmer Innovation Day in 2013 by organising a consultative meeting in Axum with innovator farmers, experts, partner organisations and longstanding members from the local and Tigray region and other regions in Ethiopia with a theme “Farmers’ Innovation Improves their Resilience to Change”. Community perceptions of and creative response to change in Tahtai Maichew, Ethiopia

In Tahtai Maichew District of Tigray Region in northern Ethiopia, an study was made of how smallholder farmers and their communities perceive the main changes affecting their livelihoods, including (but not only) climate change, and how they try to respond and innovatively adapt to these changes. This study formed part of the work of the Prolinnova-Ethiopia multistakeholder platform in the Axum area, carried out in the Rockefeller Foundation-supported project “Strengthening Community Resilience to Change: Combining Local Innovative Capacity with Scientific Research” (CLIC–SR). CLIC-SR Ethiopia Project Field Report of Enebse Sar Medir (ESM)

Prolinnova-Ethiopia conducted a learning workshop in Enesbe Sar Medir (ESM), Mertule-Mariam, one of the project sites where CLIC-SR project is implemented. The learning workshop involved exchanging ideas with local people on perceived changes in recent years affecting their livelihoods and local innovations in response to these changes. After conducting the learning workshop, a study team was organised and briefed to carry out the field study and come up with identified local innovations. This report gives the highlights on the overall progress of the learning workshop and the way forward.

Policy brief: LISF enhances local innovation in Ethiopia

This 4-page brief is based on the experience of Prolinnova-Ethiopia in piloting Local Innovation Support Funds (LISFs) at three sites in the south, centre and north of Ethiopia. It shows how farmer-managed funds for local innovation and adaptation initiatives can be handled effectively at local level, add value to production and enhance local capacities. It draws attention to major implications for policy in Ethiopia and offers suggestions to policymakers.
