A Growing Culture & Prolinnova showcase local innovations

The Prolinnova network has entered into a partnership with A Growing Culture (AGC) to develop a knowledge base for showcasing and making accessible local innovations and farmer-led documentation.

Two events organised by Prolinnova–Nepal in August 2016

The Prolinnova–Nepal Country Platform with the assistance of researchers and staff of the Natural History Museum (NHM), Tribhuvan University, organised a workshop on Grant Writing Development for Youth on 3–4 August 2016 and a seminar on Weed Science: Status and Future Directions on 5 August 2016.

Farmer innovators' views on capacity to innovate presented at IFSA symposium

The 12th European IFSA (International Farming Systems Association) Symposium was hosted by the Harper Adams University in Newport, UK, on 12-15 July 2016 on the theme “Social and technological transformation of farming systems: diverging and converging pathways”.

New Prolinnova initiative in Africa to enhance food & nutrition security

On 14–18 November 2016, the Promoting local innovation for Food and Nutrition Security (Proli–FaNS) project was launched with a meeting of all partners in Accra, Ghana. Proli-FaNS is a 3-year project supported by Misereor / Katholische Zentralstelle e.V. (Catholic Central Agency for Development Aid) (KZE, Germany) through a grant of the “One World No Hunger” (SEWOH) initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Prolinnova strategy 2016–20

In 2015–16, a small team from the Prolinnova Oversight Group (POG), Country Platforms (CPs) and the International Support Team (IST) facilitated discussion within the network on the future direction and activities of Prolinnova (Promoting Local Innovation in ecologically oriented agriculture and natural resource management). On the basis of these discussions, it drafted the Prolinnova strategy for 2016–20:

2016 International Partners Workshop in Senegal 16-20 May

The 2016 Prolinnova International Partners Workshop (IPW) was hosted by Prolinnova/PROFEIS–Senegal, coordinated by Agrecol-Afrique, in the week of 16–20 May 2016 in Thiès, Senegal. For the workshop programme and list of participants, click here.

Stocktaking of Prolinnova presented at GCARD3

Over a decade of experience of promoting farmer-led innovation through the Prolinnova network was showcased at the third Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD3) on 6–8 April 2016 in Johannesburg. The event was organised by the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR) and hosted by the South African Government and the Agricultural Research Council of South Africa.

New host for the Prolinnova-Nepal network

The Natural History Museum of Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu has accepted the task of hosting the Prolinnova network in Nepal. Since the network started in 2003, it has been capably hosted by LI-BIRD (Local Initiatives in Biodiversity, Research and Development) based in Pokhara.

Celebrating International Farmer Innovation Day 2015

IIRR-Philippines, the coordinating NGO of Prolinnova-Philippinesorganised two activities to encourage farmers to learn from each other: 17 farmers from Guinayangan, Quezon, took part in a "roving workshop" with a special emphasis on coffee and cacao production, and 70 farmers took part in a "farmer learning event" in which farmer trainers shared innovations in livestock management.
