Proli-FaNS webpage launched on this website

Promoting local innovation for Food and Nutrition Security” (Proli-FANS) is a 3-year project being implemented by Prolinnova Country Platforms (CPs) in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana and Kenya with funding from Misereor/Catholic Central Agency for Development Aid through a grant from the “One World No Hunger” (SEWOH) initiative of the German Government. The Association of Church-based Development Projects (ACDEP), host of Prolinnova-Ghana, coordinates Proli-FaNS on behalf of the Prolinnova network. The aims are to strengthen the innovation capacity of rural communities, particularly women, and increase local resilience to change, as well as to contribute to building multi-CP subregional platforms in West & Central Africa and in Eastern & Southern Africa for mutual learning and enagagement in policy dialogue. Prolinnova contributed a feature article on small-scale farmer innovation for sustainable agriculture to the December 2016 edition of Palawija 

New Prolinnova Oversight Group (POG) member from Asia

Emily Monville Oro (emily.monville@iirr.org) from Prolinnova–Philippines has been named by the Prolinnova Country Platforms (CPs) in Asia as the person to take the seat for Asian CPs in the Prolinnova Oversight Group (POG).

Prolinnova-Nepal at APAARI consultation on agri-food innovation

An expert consultation on agri-food innovation in Asia and the Pacific was held on 1-3 November 2016 in Taiwan, jointly organised by the Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutes (APAARI) with other international organisations. The meeting emphasised the need to involve farming communities in innovation processes with scientists. Suman Manandhar was invited to present lessons from Prolinnova-Nepal's experiences in facilitating multistakeholder partnerships to support farmer innovation in agriculture and food. Small-scale farmer innovation: a dossier

Misereor (Germany), Prolinnova and McKnight Foundation collaborated with the German development magazine WeltSichten in producing a dossier in German, English and French on Small-scale farmer innovation. French version: Innovation paysanne; German version: Bäuerliche Innovation.

POG members at HLPE colloquium on food security & nutrition

In late September, the Prolinnova Oversight Group (POG) member Esther Penunia, from the Asian Farmers Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA) attended a colloquium in Germany on food security and nutrition in the context of the 2030 Agenda.

It was organised by the High-Level Panel of Experts (HPLE) on Food Security and Nutrition of the United Nations Committee on World Food Security (CFS) and the Research Centre for Global Food Security and Ecosystems at the University of Hohenheim (Stuttgart).

Farmer-scientist CLIC–SR project completed!

The project “Strengthening Community Resilience to Change: Combining Local Innovative Capacity with Scientific Research” (CLIC–SR), supported by the Rockefeller Foundation, was completed on 31 August 2016. During the four years since 2012, the Prolinnova Country Platforms in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda made large strides in:

Cases of joint experimentation - Outcomes and lessons learnt 
August 2015 to July 2016

A training programme, conducted in collaboration with the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), funded by Nuffic involved two workshops and a period of practical application of the principles covered in the workshops. The final report documents the cases of joint experimentation undertaken by participating organisations. The training programme was requested by Mahlathini Development Foundation and was supported by the Institute of Natural Resources (INR).
