Prolinnova-Mozambique’s first activities date back from December 2006, when an inception workshop was organised by VETAID (a British NGO operating in Mozambique from the late 1980s to mid-2008). Individuals and institutions involved in the workshop decided that establishing a Prolinnova network in the country would provide strategic momentum to their efforts to incorporate more participatory approaches into agricultural research, extension and development in the country. (See the full report in Portuguese or a summary in English)

To coordinate this new network, an interim core team composed of VETAID Mozambique and ADCR was appointed by participants and charged with coordinating activities proposed by partners and "keeping/sustaining the network" for the following few months.

Prolinnova-Mozambique was admitted into the international Prolinnova Community of Practice (CoP) in December 2007, one year after its inaugural workshop. Throughout 2007, the members had focused their efforts on consolidating the in-country team, translating key documents to Portuguese, developing a full-fledged proposal for the programme (available in Portuguese and English), getting acquainted with/participating in the international-level activities and establishing a National Steering Committee (for a full account, see the Prolinnova-Mozambique 2007 report).

Prolinnova-Mozambique played an instrumental role in developing  the sub-programme on HIV/AIDS and PID (called HAPID) and, since early 2008, has been taking part in its implementation.

At the beginning of 2008, VETAID announced it would close its office in Mozambique. The National Steering Committee has decided that ADCR will host the network and the HAPID activities until the end of the 2008, when an internal evaluation and assessment of the situation will take place.
