Burkina Faso Country Programme

The PROFEIS programme is not yet officially implemented in Burkina Faso, but fund raising is taking place at national, regional and international levels. In the meantime, with the technical and financial support of ETC EcoCulture and the Prolinnova programme, respectively, Réseau MARP and many participatory-minded institutions and organisations in Burkina Faso are developing partnership around the approach of local innovation/farmer innovator/participatory innovation development (PID).

During the introductory workshop of the PROFEIS programme held in Ouahigouya in September 2007, 13 entry themes were identified. The top six themes are:

• Land reclamation.
• Agro-sylvo-pastoral integration.
• Production systems.
• Land system.
• Poultry rearing as income-generating activity.
• Reconstitution of biodiversity.

Réseau MARP and its partners have developed a workplan for 2008 which includes the following key activitie:

• Continued partnership building.
• Identification and characterisation of innovators and innovations.
• Networking farmer innovators.
• Exchange visits.
• Poultry rearing as income-generating activity.
• Piloting farmer-led documentation.
